1st. Contact the Stitchin' Post for order forms & pricing.
Classes run from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Two numbers together indicate a two-day class.
Each workshop is coded by level of expertise: Beginning workshops are for people who have little or no experience with quiltmaking; Advanced Beginning workshops require you to have rotary cutter and piecing experience; Intermediate workshops require you to be comfortable doing your own interpretation of patterns/designs; and Advanced workshops require you to be comfortable with all levels of designing and creating quilts. Some classes require a specific book, pattern, or lab fee. These are listed at the bottom of the class description.
LUNCHES
Daily lunches will be available to quilters at the
school through the efforts of the staff at Rays Food Place.
Bagged lunches will be provided at the school Monday through
Friday for $10 and must be pre-ordered.

Need to borrow a sewing machine for your classes at Quilter’s Affair? Morrow’s Sewing & Vacuum Center will have machines available for a $10/day rental fee! Call 541-382-3882 after receiving your class confirmation to reserve a machine. Deadline for reservations is June 1, 2007.

501 WHAT, ANOTHER TWO-COLOR MYSTERY?

Yes, but this will be lots of each of your two colors—formally known as the “Not Your Ordinary Two-Color Mystery.” Fabric selection is fun: select two colors, then five or six fabrics of each of the two colors. Plan on preclass cutting—this is always good—since you will be ready to sew when you arrive. And, as always, you should be well on your way to having a good start on a quilt when you leave class on Friday. |

In this workshop you will be using circles, wheels, gears, and unusual shapes to create an “art quilt” for that special spot on the wall. You will focus on the use of color, shape, intensity, and value; while using fusible appliqué to get the job done. This class will open the door to exploring contrast, while overlapping shapes and creating focal points. You will have the opportunity to break rules, create new ones, and learn how to trust your instincts.

This is a non-traditional approach to a traditional needle-art form. Sharon’s theory is, if it can be done by hand, it can be done by machine, and Sashiko is no exception! Learn new techniques for making perfectly spaced stitches all with the ease of your sewing machine. Originating as the “common” man’s garment decoration, sashiko has been adopted by quilters to add exciting designs to their quilt tops and garments. Using your sewing machine and heavyweight threads, learn how to achieve this stunning embellishment on either a single thickness of fabric or through a quilt “sandwich.”

Try your hand at quilting a muslin pillow top in this absolutely beginning introduction to hand quilting. You’ll start right in with a pre-stenciled pillow top—a bit of basting, then begin hand quilting the pillow top in class. Learn some marking techniques, discuss various tools and techniques, and practice stitching straight and curved lines. With no seams to fuss through, you can concentrate on learning the quilting stitch. Jan & Lou will also introduce you to Aunt Becky’s Finger Protector©, a unique quilting tool that not only protects fingers under the quilt, but promotes tiny consistent stitches.

This class is designed for those students who are comfortable with their machine quilting skills and are ready to take things to the next level! I will do a review of valuable tips in quilting free motion designs, recommended battings and an in-depth lesson on decorative threads and how to use these wonderful threads in your machine. A very basic lesson on basting a small wholecloth quilt will also be given. You will design a small wholecloth quilt and have 5 cases of Superior Threads at your disposal to create your project. I will have an assortment of stencils available to use in designing your project. |

505 FINISHING TIPS OF THE TRADE

Technique Class – Project Size Varies *
In this class, you will learn binding techniques including double-folded mitered corner bindings, hidden bindings for more graphic quilts, curved bindings using bias strips, the pillow-case turn technique, and other edge finishes. In addition, you will do some embellishment treatments with inserted cording, couching, and folded fabric, and you will also learn how to apply a proper sleeve. There will be demonstrations on layering a quilt, discussion on choosing the correct batting for your project, and methods of safety pinning, spray glue, and thread basting. Bring a quilt top that you wish to finish.

In just three easy steps–Color, Design, and Theme–you will create beautiful quilts. Choose yellow and green for the University of Oregon, orange and black for Oregon State University, or any other color combination. The blocks are composed of half-square triangles, flying geese, and square-on-point units, which are combined in various ways to create a variety of different “looks.” If you wish, you may use your blocks to create a table runner, or you can customize your quilt using a school motif as the center block, or create additional blocks to make a larger quilt.
