Hilde Morin

November 7 - 11, 2016

Hilde Morin, a fiber artist, looks for drama in the creation of art quilts. Drama in the form of color, texture and pattern. She finds her inspiration in both, natural and in architectural scenes, having a particular interest in cities, towns, buildings and weathered structures. In her natural scenes she represents reality by simplifying or suggesting it through either abstract or primitive designs. Her technique includes the creation of a first layer of improvised pieced fabric with the addition of a second layer of texture thru extensive thread work and surface design. Her creations are influenced by her multi-cultural background and travels.

Hilde was born in Caracas, Venezuela. Of Belgian descent, currently resides in Portland, Oregon, USA. She exhibits at local and international venues including SOFA (Sculptured Objects and Functional Art) Chicago and New York, Museum of the Americas-Florida, Galería Exágono-México, CIART (Centro Integral de Arte Textil) in Argentina, Museum of Contemporary Craft in Portland-Oregon and Oregon Historical Society Museum in Portland, Oregon. She teaches regularly at her studio and at other venues, promoting the use of free form techniques in the construction of art quilts.

Using leftover scraps you can make a forest of adorable stuffed Christmas trees --- perfect for a mantel, centerpiece, or a holiday scene. I was captivated by these on the cover of Modern Patchwork gifts. It turns out the design used Valori's Stitch and Flip method to piece the strata. My neighbor, Jim, has cut wood rounds and drilled holes in them for the dowels. We will have wood rounds and dowels for sale.

We will reschedule the class for another day, based on classroom and instructor availability.

A Friendly Reminder For A Healthy Classroom
If you have a cold, flu symptoms, or a lingering cough, please be considerate of fellow classmates and the instructor by staying home and taking care of yourself. Call the store in advance to let us know you are not feeling well, and we will do what we can to accommodate your illness.
Along the same lines, we have many students who are sensitive to perfumes and scented lotions; please avoid wearing such products to class.
Thank you!
