Tuesday, Sept 13 5:30-8:30 pm
& Saturday, Sept 17 10:00-4:30 pm

This very traditional Carpenter's Square gives the appearance of strips of fabric weaving in and out in the blocks. When looking closely at the design, you will see two different blocks. These combine to create a classic two-color quilt. Ours is two solids, but a solid and a print would work well too. Pattern is included in the class price. Note: there is a Tuesday evening mandatory prep class to start you off spot on!

Spend two days learning new dyeing techniques from Carlene Keller! Carlene studied fiber arts at Mendocino Community College for three years beginning in 2001. Dyeing fabrics for quilt shops and shows and teaching dye classes soon followed. She is continually experimenting with new techniques to enhance the creativity of quilts. Carlene currently lives on the Big Island in Hawaii where she continues teaching and making art quilts.

Session 1: Sept. 18-19, 2016
Session 2: Sept. 20-21, 2016

We will dye both cotton and silk in the indigo vat using various types of shaped resist. Folding, stitching, binding, pole wrapping and clamping will result in unique fabrics for your next creation. We will dye silk scarves using chopsticks and slinkies. No kidding! If you haven’t tried dyeing in an indigo vat, you’re in for a treat. It is truly magic.

Both sessions are full, but we are still taking names for the waiting list.

Bookstack Cowl

Patricia Drake
Sept 29 & Oct 6

pat drakes bookstack cowlA fun and addictive spiraling rib stitch pattern makes this cowl completely reversible! Similar in concept to a walking rib, your marker is moved every other row to create "movement". Basic K2 / P2 ribbing takes on new life with this piece. After the initial two setting rows, the cowl is made of 4 rows repeated to desired length. Though the cowl looks intricate and challenging, it is an easy pattern to follow - nothing but sequences of knits and purls.
