  • Carrie Bloomston

Carrie Bloomston is a mama, a seeker, a designer, and an abstract painter. After studying painting at Rhode Island School of Design, she spent the next decade recovering from art school :) and she owned a decorative arts/mural-painting company for 16 years. Now, when not hanging out with her inspiring kids and thoughtful husband, she is working on her newest brand, SUCH Designs. Her family is her reason and her refuge. Carrie says, "Expressing myself through art and design allows me to share the joy and awe I feel with others. Think of me as your inner-artist enabler. I want to help you celebrate your inner artist, too!"

  • Annie Brady

Annie Brady is an Irish illustrator and surface pattern designer.

Annie graduated from the National College of Art and design in Dublin and started her career working in Graphic design, most notably for the Irish fashion and lifestyle label, Avoca. Designing out of the company’s sampling studio, surrounded by bolts of beautiful Liberty and Albert Guegain fabrics, Annie was inspired to sketch up her own textile designs. To her pleasure and surprise, some of her prints went on to become company bestsellers.

After 10 years of city life, Annie craved the green fields of her native Co. Offaly and so she went off to live in a castle and hatch a longer term plan. An around-the-world trip ensued, followed by a transatlantic move. Annie has now found happiness in the small and artsy city of Providence, Rhode Island. Here she lives with her husband and works full time as an illustrator and surface pattern designer.

Curiosity is Annie’s middle name and she thrives on opportunities to see life in a different light. Be it far flung travel, browsing galleries and markets, or camping in the wilderness, her designs are a culmination of these experiences; some real, many more imagined!

  • Violet Craft

Violet Craft was born in the Old West, where she pursued her education in business and finance. The start of her career in software development brought her to the Pacific Northwest, where she bagged her man, feathered her nest, and stitched it all together. Drawn to art, craft, and make-ing, the birth of her first daughter compelled Violet to ditch her corporate career and seek out her passion.

  • Marcia Derse

From her studio on Whidbey Island in beautiful Pacific Northwest, Marcia starts with a blank canvas; a bolt of muslin, fabric dyes, and the primary colors in silkscreen paints. The world is her palette---when she sets to work, she gathers colors, images and objects from everywhere. Anything that catches her eye outdoors or in the studio becomes an artist's tool: pine cones, spoons, brushes, homemade stamps, and bamboo pens. She applies paint with abandon, exhausting the cups of color, trying every combination. Each piece of fabric is a fresh and innovative arrangement of color, form, and texture. Bringing together these stand-alone pieces, her fabric collections are harmonious groupings that represent a central idea or concept. She draws her themes from the seasons or her travels or sometimes simply a new texture found in her environment.

  • Kathy Doughty

Designer Kathy Doughty - A Material Obsession!

Kathy Doughty remembers a simple childhood spent playing on green grass and exploring the forests accessed through her yard in Ohio. Upon graduating she landed in the punk rock era of the East Village of NYC where she spent ten years working in advertising, fashion and marketing, which taught her to look at traditional things with a new eye. It was her move to Australia in 1990 that brought Kathy to sewing and quilting. She found the “American” activity of sewing and quilting connected her to roots in the USA and filled a big gap in her life.

In 2003 she co-founded Material Obsession, then in 2008 became a sole owner/director of the popular patchwork shop where you can find her every day listening, learning, and helping customers select fabric for their projects. Material Obsession made a dynamic entry into the quilt world by embracing the newest FreeSpirit designers including Denyse Schmidt, Amy Butler and Anna Maria Horner as well as Kaffe Fassett. The shop encourages quilters to experiment with textiles, design and method.

In 2014 Kathy designed her first collection of fabric inspired by her personal collection of Kantha quilts from India. Her second fabric collection was inspired by the pond-side environments of her youth. Now, Kathy joins the FreeSpirit collective of designers, who have been inspiring her quilts for many years, with her first collection, Flock Together. As an avid quilter, Kathy’s quilt designs reflect her eclectic interests in a wide range of techniques from modern quilting to paper piecing. She also teaches workshops internationally, has written two books, and additionally has co-authored two Material Obsession books.

  • Alison Glass

Alison Glass started her design business in 2007, focusing on space remodels and custom home decor pieces. Her love of color and shape and the combination of the two eventually lead to making the decision to work toward her goal of creating artwork for surfaces. She is thrilled for the opportunity to design fabric for Andover.

Alison is inspired by the multitude of details in the world, both natural and those made by artisans, particularly in urban architecture. She loves to explore different ideas, including art, design, architecture, color, and pretty much anything else! She is incredibly grateful to her family and her amazingly varied and interesting friends, who are a constant source of inspiration and new possibilities.
