From the Artist: I love those early images from The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show™ of beautiful quilts thrown over a rail fence with the snow-covered Three Sisters Mountains as a backdrop. “Nature’s Inspiration” follows in that tradition. The green patterned area on the bottom and lower right side of the painting suggest a quilt border composed of leaves and small succulent plants. I enjoy the happy coincidence that the gardener’s work also can be captured in the frame of the quilt border. The wildflowers appear as if they could be part of the quilt — or maybe the quilt has just been flung over a rail in the middle of the wildflowers and they are growing in front of it. The wildflowers featured are hardy enough to survive our chilly mountain winters. The Prairie Cone Flower, Blanket Flower, Shasta Daisy, Lupine, and multi-colored Poppies are Nature’s contribution to this quilt. For me… there is pattern everywhere. I see it in the beautiful fabric-like quality of these chubby quail, in the rich siennas of the prickly Ponderosa pinecone, in the variegated shades of gold in the mountain meadows, and in the greens and blues of the distant pine-covered foothills. I am honored to have my painting, “Nature’s Inspiration,” chosen to be the poster for the 2007 Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show. I hope you enjoy it and think about how beautiful our environment is here in Sisters… it’s an inspiration everyday to live life to its fullest!
