Join our resident Knit Doctor, Nancy Hamilton, for a series of five classes designed increase your knitting confidence and improve your technical skills. Each month, Nancy will demonstrate a variety of interpretations of a particular knitting technique, guide you through experimentation of each, and explain their use and application. Classes are available individually or in series. Requisite skills: cast on, bind off, knit, purl, and recognize the difference between a knit stitch and a purl stitch.
January 29 - Knitting in Circles - Learn the difference between Magic Loop, knitting with two circulars, and double points and the best applications for each of these circular knitting techniques.
February 26 - Switching Yarn Affects Gauge - If you’ve ever wanted to knit a sweater in a different yarn than the pattern specified, this class is for you. Nancy will discuss different characteristics of your yarn choices and how they will affect your finished garments with regard to stitch definition, drape, size, and so much more.
March 26 - Cast On, Bind Off - Tubular…Channel Island…twisted longtail…i-cord…picot… Yes, these really do apply to knitting. Different cast on and bind off methods serve distinct purposes and elevate your knitted items from homemade to handmade.
April 30 - Seaming - Learn basic seaming for stockinette and garter stitch projects. Side seaming, shoulder seaming, and armhole seaming will all be covered in this class.
May 28 - OOPS! Knowing how to pick up and read your stitches to fix a mistake in pattern distinguishes the hobby knitter from the accomplished knitter. Learn a variety of methods for fixing common mistakes found during knitting or after your project is completed. Prepare to drop stitches…lots of them!...and learn how to re-knit in pattern. It can be done!
