This year’s Main Event: Unbounded features the much-loved Giuseppe Ribaudo
Date: 7:00 pm, Friday, July 12, 2024 at Sisters High School Auditorium
(Doors open at 6:30 pm)
Here is a description of the lecture Giuseppe will share at the Main Event, Friday night, July 12, 2024
"We are ruled by rules. While it is a job filled with creativity, fabric designers are as tied to rules as anyone. So much of what goes into working in the quilting industry is tied to “the way things have always been done.” It is not a bad thing to honor the past. But keeping with how things have been traditionally done can often stifle creativity, and with that, innovation. It leads me to wonder… What can you create when you are unbounded by the confines of expectation and obligation?
In 2024, I have carved out a month to do nothing but play with the possibilities of what I can do with “Re,” a simple, modular quilt block I designed a few years back. In this month, I will explore the many permutations I have sketched of different ways to use the concept of this pattern to create various quilts. I aim to explore color, scale, shape, and form in ways unfamiliar to me. Rules are out the window. I want to create for creativity’s sake, unbounded by the expectations of pattern releases and using only my current fabric designs.
This idea was born in Sisters in July of 2023 while I soaked in the inspiration of both the town and Quilter’s Affair itself."
