Lawry is always looking for ways to use up those scraps...and this quilt will do it! You don’t need large pieces, just a good combination of scraps. Fat quarters will also work well, just have lots of color, variety in prints, and a mix of solids and prints if you would like. This way you get a variety of houses, and trees — just like in a neighborhood.
There are 5 different house blocks and two different tree blocks that make the neighborhood. Combine the parts and make several of each and you will have a 56” x 76” quilt. Or make just a few for a wall hanging, table runner, or smaller quilt.
The background is also a combination of fabrics — all the same value and color, but have a variety in the prints of the fabrics. If you would rather, you can only use one background.
Materials Needed:
Amounts given are approximate - with scrap quilts, more is always better!
Background & First Border: Approximately 1 1/2 yards - minimum width 2 1/2" (These can be all one fabric, or several prints of the same color/value.)
Trees: Approximately 3/8 - 1/2 yard green scraps - minimum width 4"
Tree Trunks: Approximately 1/8 yard brown scraps - minimum width 2"
Houses: Scraps to total approximately 2 1/2 yards - minimum width 2 1/2" (You will need 1 to 1 1/2 strips of the same fabric, 2 1/2" wide, per house)
Roofs: Scraps to total approximately 1/2 yard - minimum width 2 1/2" - 3"
Windows: Scraps to total approximately 3/8 yard - minimum width 2"
Doors: Scraps to total approximately 3/8 yard - minimum width 2"
Chimneys: Scraps to total approximately 1/8 yard - minimum width 1 1/2"
Second Border: Approximately 1 yard multi-colored scraps - minimum width 2 1/2"
Backing: 4 7/8 yards
Binding: 5/8 yard
