A pattern to make simple, lined square or rectanglular pouches with a zipper at the top.
Zipper Pouches are my go-to container for both smaller and larger items. The length of the zipper determines how wide the bag can be. The shape of the bag can range from square, to a vertical or horizontal rectangle, so you become the designer. Fabric choices can vary from decorator weight, to canvas, to quilting cottons. If you want to give quilting cottons a bit more body, use Shape-Flex interfacing. It is a light weight, woven, fusible interfacing. Think about what you might want to put in the zipper pouch and have fun!
Materials Needed:
This pattern is designed to give you the techniques needed to make any size zipper pouch. The size is up to you, and the fabric amounts will be based on the size of bag you want to make. The key is that your zipper has to be, at a minimum, slightly larger than the size bag you want to make.
For example, to make a finished 8” x 8” zipper pouch with a 1” gusset, you will need: 1 fat 1/4 or 1/4 yard (each) of outer bag fabric and lining fabric
Zipper - minimum 9” in length
Fabric glue stick
Optional: Shape-Flex interfacing (purchase the same amount as for the outside of the bag)
