Ann's fast-paced lecture/demonstration of painting with Procion MX dyes introduces the unlimited potential of creating color and patterns of cotton, linen, rayon, and silk. The dyes are light and wash fast - without changing the hand of the fabric. She will show how various tools and changing the consistency of the dyes creates different effects. The group will be able to see the step-by step process that goes into a fabric with layered colors and patterns. She has organized her daily presentations in order of complexity of using the dyes, basics first, then combining processes. Ann will have extra dyes and fabric ready, and during the day so individuals participants can volunteer to practice what has been demonstrated. Ann's goal is to give participants the opportunity to address their own questions from their experiences with dye, so the exact information will be flexible.

There will be handouts with all the recipes, as well slides of many more pieces of fabric and some of her quilts that incorporate these processes. She will be covering a range of techniques including color mixing, hand manipulating the dyes, painting, stamping, monoprinting and water-soluble resist. Ann wants to offer students a chance to see possibilities for their own work and give them the power to be able to make their own colors and marks on their textile projects.

No sewing machine needed.
